Please don't send us any knitting!

We are presently unable to accept any further knitted items as we are extremely well stocked thanks to the kind and generous knitters who have supported us so beautifully in the past. Please email us if you would like to enquire if there is anything specific we need.

We are very grateful for every beautiful knitting donation we have received in the past for us to give to bereaved parents for their precious baby. We feel very blessed to have had some wonderfully talented knitters who generously donated their time, skill and work so that we may provide these special items for families in need in our local area. The fact that each piece of work is lovingly made by hand is so meaningful to our parents, it communicates that someone is caring, thoughtful and sending them love at such a heartbreaking time.

If you are reading this because you would like to help by knitting some items, please contact your local hospital to see if they need anything specific.

There is a menu of patterns below that you are welcome to use, but please don't send anything to Tigerlily Trust as we cannot accept any more donations.

Items are usually knitted as a matching pair, this is so one set can be used for baby and the other can be kept as a keepsake by their parents.

Angel Pockets

Pattern by Lisa's Stars

Gauge: 7 stitches per inch : 13 rows per inch

Needles: 3mm with 4ply wool

Measurements when finished: 6” wide – 5” long

Pattern:

Cast on 42 stitches
Knit every row until piece measures 5”. **To make button holes, on rows 16 and 32: Knit 1, Yarn Over, Knit 2 together, knit to the end of row.**
Cast off.
Fold the left side over leaving approximately 2” free on the right hand sideSew along the bottom seam (this creates a little open pocket inside the wrap).
Sew on 2 buttons and attach 2 button loops or alternatively make a bow by threading ribbon through the joining sides.
These can be also made bigger by adding more stitches when casting on.

Angel Wraps

Place the Pocket on the base and sew up
You make a crochet edge half way round the base of the pocket but not on the pocket part.
Thread Ribbon through the holes on the front the pocket and draw up and make a bow.

Angel's Wrap - alternative pattern

NOTES: Garter stitch, hand knit

This Angel's Pocket is knit in 4 sizes. It is used on the labour suites for tiny babies who do not make it. Some of these babies are very small and / or fragile, so these little wraps are used.

Please use wool no thicker than 4 ply in white or any pastel colour. 3 or even 2 ply is fine especially for the smaller ones. Use the larger sizes and adjust needles to suit. They will of course come out smaller.

In 4 ply wool Size 9 needles 3.3/4mm
The finished size does not matter but here are the approximate finished sizes and weights

Knit to centre 3 stitches Slip 1, knit 2 together, pass slip stitch over, knit to end of row

Repeat these two rows until 3 stitches remain
Next row :- Slip 1 knit 2 together Pass slip stitch over. Fasten off.

TRIANGLE :- [mitred] This forms the pocket

At the cast on edge of the square [2 sides] Pick up 75, 101, 125. 151. stitches
1st row:- Wrong Side
Knit 2 together, knit to centre 3 stitches Slip 1. knit 2 together, pass slip stitch over, knit to the last 3 stitches, knit 2 together knit1.
2nd row :- Knit
Repeat these 2 rows until 7 stitches remain
Next row Knit 1, knit 2 together knit1, knit 2 together. Knit1
Cast off remaining 5 stitches.

To finish off sew lace round the 3 raw edges or you can crochet any suitable edging. Cut ribbon, or make a cord or crochet chain. 16" 18" 20" 22". Using either a large eyed bodkin or medium sized safety pin. Thread the ribbon/cord from the right hand seam across the front pocket and out through the left hand seam. Gather up pocket and
tie in a bow. If you wish to put a little motif or bow etc on please do so.

Knitted Ice Cream Tub Cribs

Please can they be made in gender neutral colours, preferably white, cream, ivory. (please no pink or blue) and the same for any embellishments you may like to add. Thank you.

Angel Gowns - Please knit in white

To fit chest 18 cms (7”)
Approx. Length 20 cms (8”)

Angel Gown - Please knit in white or cream

Start at lower front skirt:Cast on 40 sts.Knit in garter stitch for 6 rows.

Knit in garter stitch until total shoulder piece of extra stitches has 24 ridges, end wrong side.
Next row: Bind off 15 sts, knit across (55 sts).

Back:Repeat bodice rows 1 & 2 from front.
Row 3: Knit across.
Row 4: Knit 4, purl across to last 4 sts, Knit 4.
Repeat rows 3 and 4 until back skirt has 31 ridgest, end with row 3.
Knit 6 rows in garter stitch, bind off.

Finishing:Weave in ends. Sew buttons on back skirt even with buttonholes. Sew one button on back of each sleeve, even with buttonhole. Cut two strands of ribbon, about 2 feet long, and weave through holes in bodice, tie at sides under arms. If desired, you can add a bow with long streamers, or a short bow at centre front neckline. We will add a 'made for an angel' charm at the centre front.

They are fine without any stuffing as they are so tiny.

Cast on 88 stitches

Rows 1 & 2: Knit

Cast off

Sew ends together.

Base:

Cast On 30 stitches

Knit in garter stitch until piece is long enough

Cast off

Sew onto the bottom of the crib’s body (eyelet row is the top).

Mattress:

Repeat pattern for the base but knit in stocking stitch.

Cast offSew 3 sides of the mattress onto the base, stuff with safety stuffing, sew up last edge.

Finishing off:Thread through preferred colour of ribbon through the eyelet row(s), sew ends to secure.

Hearts, teddies, pocket angels in the same colour can be added as ‘accessories’

4mm/ old sizes 8 for every other piece except pillow which uses 2 3/4mm old size 12

Crib is worked in every row Knit and is a close fit to the crib

CARTE DOR ICE CREAM TUBS are used but all ice cream tubs this size will be prefect

Main piece fits up and over sides of tub from bottom outer to bottom inner base

Oversew short sides together and turn piece so the seam is inside place on to the tub

Increase at each end of next and following alternative row until there is 23sts on the needle

Cast off

Pin one base piece to the outer bottom of tub and oversew into place

Pin the other base piece to the inner bottom of the tub and oversew in to place

Blanket

Cast off Fold over piece to join the cast on edge.

Oversew this seam and turn piece through to the right side
